Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750)

Written by Nurel Javissyarqi
Translated by Agus B. Harianto

“Bach is exclusively about music. There is no literature, or statement of his own life came to reduce the purity of sound. He is synthesis of the preceding, and became the starting point of the afterwards. Even now there is still influence on to the modern music. We could find him again until the concerts of Stravinski and Poulenc. Bach must often be read and probably indeed that people have not been able to reveal all the beauty of his music.”
{Excerpt from the opinion of J. Van Ackere, in the book “Musik Abadi (Eternal Music)”, translated J. A. Dungga, Gunung Agung, Djakarta, n.d. (no date), the original book entitle “Eeuwige Muziek”, published by NV Standaard-Boekhandel, Antwerpen, Belgie, (which is retranslated into English would be more or less like above)}.

It has been a long time I did not hear the playing of classical music, maybe more than three months. At this time, I had begun to listen it again, through the composition of Bach music.

I felt like I got a new freshness, newer youthfulness scintillating came up to me, like thousands of kisses of flowers after the rain fall.

It’s the way of the artists treat the audience to follow the tone strains, whether it’s rhythms dance of the lively sentence, all hypnotizes soul and feeling of human kind.

It’s like the nature emits its countless charms, when the sunlight penetrated through the defects of leaves. Into the side, where our spirit is ascertained dissolved into its depth.

Like the poet wandered into the far country from his birthplace, his legs went abroad when he was entering the dry season. The leaves fell off buffeted by the hot; the dry winds choked the throat.

Then at a blessed twilight, he found the very clear river from green mountains. His eyes filled with tears, his hearts filled with millions of emotion, and then he threw his body into it with great delight, as if everything he ever wrote flied away.

Bitterness of firmness finds distinctive color, which follows the flow of his inner melody to wander the fate that seemed certainly no direction, lulled by luxurious beauty. The river water has been evaporating anxiety, alike the delighted boy found his toys.

But, all must be finished, came out and realize the vulnerability of the heart and the glare of view. And set intentions again, so the sheltered was not dissolved in splitting pulses the breath of life.

The images of Bach music is very clear, if not to say sparkling clear. Crystal lights decorate the house in a modern construction, or snow palace of the princess blessed with drizzling down decreased amazing.

Passions of rose petals, is as fragrant as jasmine spreads the smell of love. And bridal chamber decorated with white cloth waved seen. While small kisses were beyond the lightning, it made unconsciously.

Soft desire, harmony of peace, the chastity of heart, the beauty of mind, is a special wealth to be sincerely getting knowledge to the bright future. The solemnly music is the harmonious one and capable to stable the ups and downs tones of the life for building of loyalty.

Johann Sebastian Bach, the composer was born in Eisenach, Germany, on March 21, 1685, and he died on July 28, 1750. He composed music instrument of organ, harpsichord, clavichord, and also the orchestra. His famous work is “Brandenburg Concerto.”

At 1703, he won the contest of organist in the church of St. Blasius, Mulhausen, located about 55 kilometers from Arnstatdt. He met and attracted to Maria Barbara, who was his cousin. They married in the same year.

He studied the composition from the composer George Boehm (1661-1773). He found his own peak; sharp dynamic on careful thought with very interesting composition, and patiently presented lyrical rhythm, this understanding is really mounting.

To complete about the subject of Bach, let’s make a chance to hear the composition of “Brandenburg Concerto.” When his wife was Anna Magdalena Wulken, which gave a lot of happiness, at that time he had his top of brilliant.

According to J. Van Ackere, “the concerts of Brandenburg are a beautiful series, rich and its style was as same as Beethoven’s ninth symphony, or symphonic poems of Liszt.”

At the end of his life he suffered from blindness, like what had been through the composer Frederick Delius (1862-1934), who was born in Bradford, Yorkshire, England, and his parents came from Bielefeld, Germany too. In the blindness, Bach composed “Die Kunst der Fugue 13 (BWV 1080)”, the composition has so many variations, the form of a fugue theme. He wrote while he was lying in bed, spelling the notes crossed in his head to his beloved wife. He died and the work had no time for completion.

Does not seem on the influence of his music and his life, he was quite sane music poet in other words he was not reckless, though he got fame. It was reflected on how loyal his wife was, although ins and outs of his life was as full as the number of colors.

He composed the joy to make peace into the souls in the dance. All the sides filled with the understanding of shadows last forever, the flow without too much waves of vanity. Simple, yes, the simplicity is the most appropriate language aims to him, which did not escape from the beauty on the desire of creation.

The music he composed is very beautiful as such threads of colors swinging, clinging to tease. He was pulled to receive the death kisses to taste satisfaction. In particular side, the shadow of his lover with the parade of young angels brought fruits.

The beautiful eyes provoked the breaths to absorb the depth of pleasure. Hurry legs, deftly fingers was in harmonious with the calculation, passed over a bridge of the heart sliced on the edge of ravine of memories border. Those delicacies seemed to fade if not sipping again, friendly to the peacefulness of loyalty and intimately to The Beloved.

From the description above we can take, his simple and dynamic personality, comforting familiarity to take further energy, the joy is going mature. The comfort of twilight sky is closer, the night intimately with the stars, white clouds we’ve ever known.

There is no anxiety on the other side, a patriotic spirit shown up; moreover revenge is impossible he had. So, it’s true the expression of J. Van Ackere; “Bach’s music is exclusively.” His soul keeps dancing as much as the drizzle drops on dimpled of the river. Cheerfulness is radiated naturally followed the plot of instinct that was subtle and gorgeous, he performs the questions with amazing expression.

Namely mature stability, sincerity over a distance of resignation without arrogance that can break the previous incident. Completing the nature behavior with the self introspection, filled out the breath of enliven, pushed buds of bloom, and no need to hurt the blossoming sheaths he had.

He did not set breath once or twice for the sake of the perfection of melody to be embedded into the heart, for the base of harmony on the earth.

When he played the tick of music, he often swept away by his own graceful flicks, but he would not quickly stop. He swiped the possibilities as far as possible, but it was still in the reaching of consciousness. The sounds seemed friendly spread, to see the crown of maturity.

Increasing pulses sprinkles the fire of love, the rising of the charm of deepest love, which is still in the limits of reason. The calculation in line is for the final termination; to satisfy all the senses and to comfort the soul, after took a deep understanding the acquisition about the meaning of life.
